Balurghat, June 20: Monsoon is ahead. Earlier, a mock drill was held at Balurghat on how the disaster management department would carry out rescue operations in case of floods or any other natural calamity. On Saturday morning, the staff of the disaster management office suddenly surrounded the District Magistrate’s office and carried out the exercise the staff need to do .
In a blink of eye, the staff of the Disaster Management Office showed how people can be rescued from the top of a four-storey building, how to clear the trees lying on the road and the how to use modern equipments.
Those equipments have been handed over to the Disaster Management Department in presence of Additional District Magistrate (Land and Revenue) Sri PranabKumar Ghosh, District Chief Health Officer Dr. Sukumar Dey and Sadar Sub-Divisional Commissioner Sri Bishwaranjan Mukherjee among others.
Additional District Magistrate Sri Pranab Kumar Ghosh (Land and Revenue) said the rainy season is underway and the mock drill was organised to check the preparation in case of any natural calamity . The District Disaster Management Department is always vigilant. Besides, there are more than 400 trained volunteers, said the ADM.
