Midnapore (East), Aug. 2 : A person was allegedly killed and hanged by some villagers on charge of theft. The suspected villagers denied the charge and pleaded innocence. They said that the victim had trespassed one’s house and finally committed suicide to avoid public’s rage. But the family members and the neighbors of the victim doubted that the victim was hanged after killing. The family raised suspicion over his death.
This incident occurred at Rampur village under Bhagabanpur police station in Midnapore (East) district. The victim was identified as Debashis Gharai, a resident of Bibhishanpur village under the same police station.
Last night the villagers of Rampur were informed that a thief trespassed Manaranjan Das’s abandoned building. Immediately they gheraod the building and informed the police. Police discovered a body hanging from the ceiling. The body was brought down by the police . After the identification, the extended family was informed. The members of the victim’s family claimed that Debashis had no committed suicide. Mangaldip, son of the victim, said, “It was not a case of suicide. His legs touched the floor and his pants unbuttoned. He was killed somewhere and hanged later.” The body had been sent to Kontai hospital for the autopsy.
Pranab Roy, the officer-in-charge of Bhagabanpur police station, said, ”The dead body was sent for autopsy. Cause behind the death will be come out when the report submitted.”
