Police arrested 8 in connection with the vandalism

Shantiniketan, Aug. 18: Eight persons have been arrested and produced in the court on Tuesday. On the basis of the suo moto, complaint lodged by police and eight persons have been arrested in connection with Monday’s vandalism.
Hundreds of residents went on a rampage Monday at the Poush Mela ground of Visva-Bharati University campus, founded by Rabindranath Tagore, in Bolpur’s Santiniketan area. The protestors vandalised construction materials stocked by the university to erect the boundary wall, which has now been completely damaged. On Tuesday morning the construction material that were scattered in the ground,moved by the contractor.
Sunil Singh, the President of the ‘Byabosayi Samiti’, accountant Subrata Bhakat, Chandan Samanta, a member Aminul Huda,the President of ‘Hastoshilpo Market, Gagan Sarkar, ex-employee of Viswabharati and TMC MLA of Dubrajpur made a complaint with the Bolepur PS to find out who the mastermind and their activities behind the vandalism.

Abhisekh Roy, SDPO Bolepur said, “The Viswabharati Authority lodged a complaint against some persons including the MLA. We are inquiring on this complaint.
Bolepur Police appealed to the court for 7 days’PC,but Ayan Bannerje, additional District Judge granted 2 days’PC. On Tuesday the arrested 8 produce to the Bolepur SDJM court .
