Gambling raid in Goa hotel: 42 tourists held

Panaji, Sep. 13: In a major gambling raid,  Goa Police have arrested 42 tourists after a raid at a hotel in on a Calangute in North Goa district around Saturday midnight. Police seized cash worth Rs 10 lakh, 57 mobile phones and other material following the raid. The accused, all tourists from Gujarat, Maharashtra and New Delhi, were caught gambling on the fifth floor of the hotel, SP North Utkrisht Prasoon said.

The raid was conducted after police received information that some people were playing card gambling using chips each worth Rs. 1000. All the accused have been booked under provisions of the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act. The official said they will write a letter to the state tourism department to seek suspension of the hotel’s license.
